The ONS has released its 2016-based Subnational Population Projections (SNPP) for local authorities, clinical commissioning groups and NHS regions in England.
The populations of all regions in England are projected to grow by mid-2026, with the south of England projected to grow at a faster rate than the north.
For this round of projections, the ONS has improved the methods used to calculate international migration outflows, asylum seeker flows, migration flows between England and the three other countries of the UK, the foreign armed forces population, and home armed forces returning from Germany and their dependants.
The total projected population for England is consistent with that projected in the 2016-based national projections for England.
These subnational projections supersede the previous 2014-based round and will be used to produce the 2016-based household projections for local authorities, due for release in September 2018.
