Robust pupil projections and insights for efficient education and school-place planning

Home: Welcome

For organisations planning the provision of education services, an understanding of the factors driving the demand for school places and the needs of school-age populations is key.

At a local-level, housebuilding can impact the demand for school places, influencing patterns of migration and population change. Identifying where there is likely to be a deficit or shortfall in school places over the coming years is a key challenge facing education planners and is one that requires a data-driven solution.

Falling birth rates, changes to education budgets, a growing demand for Special Educational Needs (SEN) services and rising costs are adding to the complexity of school-place planning.

Edge Analytics has unrivalled experience and expertise in producing robust pupil projections and insights to support efficient education planning.

edge-ucate

Our edge-ucate modelling framework has been developed to support local authorities in their school place planning activities.

Using our edge-ucate suite of models, we can produce estimates for the following:

  • Pupils in mainstream schools

  • Pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

  • Pupils in Alternative Provision (AP)

  • Children in Early Years settings

  • Pupil yield factors.

The edge-ucate framework provides the ability to model a range of scenarios, evaluating the impact of housebuilding and migration on pupil numbers and identifying which areas and schools are likely to see increased or decreased demand for school places.

Forecasts are clearly and transparently presented, aggregated to pupil planning areas, wards, district-, and county-level, to support education planning decisions and inform regulatory submissions.

Our estimates of pupils in mainstream schools and pupils with SEN are widely used by Local Authorities in England to inform their annual school capacity survey (SCAP) return to the Department for Education (DfE).

Education planning teams within Local Authorities across the UK rely on our forecasts and intelligence to inform their school-place planning activities, ensuring the provision of adequate pupil places. Find out more about how our clients use our data and forecasts below.
